Mortgage Loan Assistant

Job Description

EECU is looking for a Mortgage Loan Assistant to assist and work closely with our Real Estate team on a variety of business development activities and administrative services. Provides necessary support to the loan officers to increase production levels. The successful candidate will organize filing system, answers phones, photocopies documents and prepares correspondence and documents. Prepares marketing materials and may coordinate meetings, conferences and presentations. This position may be responsible for the preparation of specialized reports or documents.

Key responsibilities for the Mortgage Loan Assistant:

  • Responsible for reaching out to loan inquiries and/or referrals that are generated from EECU business channels, including but not limited to trigger leads and branch referrals. 

  • Cross sell other EECU products while bringing on new members.

  • Will conduct initial loan interview with prospective borrowers in order to analyze financial and credit data, and will give advice about product/pricing policies and guidelines, therefore, the MLA must maintain working knowledge of all FNMA, FHLMC, Ginnie Mae guidelines, as well as EECU’s internal policies and procedures. 

  • The MLA will help with other general duties. These duties include scanning documents into a file, organizing team activities, setting up out of office emails/voicemails for others, ordering supplies, etc. Managers of the department will provide additional assistance in obtaining any outstanding items to help facilitate the closing of the loan.  

  • Must be proficient in calculating debt ratios, loan to value ratios, and extensive knowledge of all loan types offered.  

  • Must understand and follow Qualified Mortgage (QM) and Ability to Repay (ATR) guideline to provide safe harbour in CFPB guidelines.  

  • Responsible for explaining complete processing timeline of the loan request. 

  • Must have understanding of HMDA – Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, and report correct information on applicable loan types. 

  • Will be responsible for follow up on loan application requests to ensure packets are received in a timely manner. 

  • Must ensure that Company policies and guidelines are adhered to, and compliance timeframes are met in regards to disclosures.  

  • Will be required to be registered with the State of Texas, which will include, a unique identifier number, along with a complete background check, fingerprinting, and testing/training per the S.A.F.E. Act. 

  • Requires SAFE Act training of 20 hours annually to maintain MLO registration.  

  • Must have understanding of the necessary compliance requirements for all Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Bribery Act, NCUA Privacy Regulations, Reg Z, FCRA/FACTA, RESPA, HMDA, Fair Housing Act, Flood Disaster Protection Act, TRID, OFAC, and Homeowner’s Protection Act.  

  • Required to attend initial and ongoing annual Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training.

 

 

Candidates for EECU should possess the following knowledge and experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, college preferred. 

  • Two years of financial experience preferred with regards to Sales and/or Credit Union relationships.

  • Must have strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to speak effectively communicate across all channels such as telephone, chat, email, text, video, and in person, this requires a high-degree of clarity in writing and the ability to convey mortgage concepts in an understandable way.

  • Excellent written, verbal, time management and communication skills.

  • Must have extensive knowledge of all loan types offered.

  • Knowledge of Real Estate processing State and Federal laws, FNMA, FHLMA, FHA/VA knowledge, rules and regulations regarding real estate lending and real property insurance coverage’s required.

  • Participate in outside promotional events conducted by the Real Estate Department, attend training courses, seminars, and additional Real Estate events, as needed.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and within strict time deadlines required.

  • Must be proficient in Symitar, Excel, Encompass, and Word.  Understanding of HMDA, and Escrow analysis a plus.

  • EECU will, in compliance with applicable law, evaluate an applicant's credit history. Only applicants with good credit history will be considered for open positions.
