Position Description
Community Teachers work with the Manager of Community Teaching Programs, and the Community Teaching Specialist to develop and facilitate experiences through community organizations serving PreK12th-grade students. These experiences may be onsite at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art or offsite at community organizations and other venues.
Responsibilities
In coordination with and as directed by the Manager of Community Teaching Programs, the Community Teacher will:
- Contribute to the development of and facilitate onsite programming and tours of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art for community organizations serving PreK12th grade audiences.
- Contribute to the development of and facilitate offsite programs for community organizations serving PreK-12th grade audiences and community groups.
- As schedule permits, attend education sessions to learn about the objects in the collection and special exhibitions, and participate in specialized professional development related to teaching techniques and strategies and DEAI initiatives.
- Stay informed of community engagement pedagogy, school curriculum, state standards, technology, and art techniques and materials relevant to onsite and offsite museum experiences.
- Help facilitate professional development for educators and leaders of community organizations, as needed.
- Help facilitate both family and access programs, on an ongoing, regular basis.
- Participate in and help facilitate large scale education, both on- and offsite, and institutional events as part of the Carter education team.
- Translate text from English to Spanish instructional content created and printed materials for community teaching programs as needed.
- Facilitate community teaching programs in Spanish for various grade levels and audiences.
- Be an ambassador for the museum, and promote museum programs and exhibitions to educators, students, and museum visitors.
- Maintain an updated Outlook calendar and inbox to stay informed about museum initiatives maintain calendar collaboration with colleagues.
- Maintain confidentiality of museum information; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Skills and Requirements
- Spanish language fluency and biliteracy required.
- Excellent writing and public speaking and presentation skills for audiences of all ages and abilities.
- Demonstrated teaching skills in a community, classroom, or museum setting.
- Knowledge of various learning styles and strategies to engage students of all ages, knowledge of current educational practices, and experience with developing community, classroom, or museum curricula.
- Experience using ESL teaching strategies, and knowledge of special needs audiences preferred.
- Computer literate; experience with Windows and MS Office products.

Qualifications/Education
- BA degree in art, art education, art history, museum education, education, American history or studies, or another related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in an informal education setting such as a community center, after-school program, or museum.
Other Job Requirements
- Must successfully complete the pre-employment drug and background screens. MVR clearance and personal transportation also required.
- Part Time position working approximately 25 hours per week, schedule variable to accommodate programming.
- Some evenings and weekends required.
