General Description:
Under the direction of the Accounting Director, the Accounting Manager is an agency Innovator.  Broadly speaking he or she has responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records. This role manages the accounting clerk, enforces accounting policies and internal controls, and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
 
Innovators are impactful decision makers who are both accountable for performance and who, by and large, oversee their program or sub-program independently. Program and sub-program results directly impact the agency’s ability to achieve its mission. They continually seek ways to enhance processes and systems.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities…
He or she must:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, preferred
  • Strong technology and computer skills (especially Microsoft excel and Quickbooks)
  • 5 yrs + progressive accounting experience, including people management (nonprofit accounting beneficial)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
 
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
 
 
Job Conditions…
Position is full-time (40 hours a week) and works Monday through Friday.  Office hours are flexible but subject to supervisor approval.  Evening and weekend work is required.  It is an exempt position.  Conditions and benefits are contained in the board approved Employee Handbook.

General Responsibilities…

  4. Create and maintain sound fiscal and operational checks/balances to ensure system-wide integrity. Think fraud and theft prevention.
  5. Authority to deviate from Operations Manual without prior approval for special circumstances.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Manage and oversee daily accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.
  2. Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff; review work for accuracy and completeness
  3. Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, internal reporting and financial statements
  4. Liaison with Development Department to ensure donations and grants are properly
    recorded. Reconcile the donor database to financial records.
  5. Ensure compliance with GAAP, agency policies, and regulatory requirements
  6. Support external audits and grant reporting by providing documentation and explanations
  7. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  8. Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls
  9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, as needed
