Salary: $24.61 – $30.76 per hour

 

Location: Fort Worth, TX

 

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, in alignment with the TRWD Geospatial Services department vision, utilize standard survey and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts and technology to contribute to TRWD’s Enterprise GIS and survey support system, supporting all TRWD departments, functions, and mission. Perform and develop survey and GIS concepts, principles, analysis, and solutions to quickly solve multifaceted spatial problems.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

· Utilize survey and total station equipment to collect, locate, and transmit collected data into TRWD’s Enterprise GIS database

· Utilize specialized equipment (such as an electronic location tool or a remote-controlled catamaran) for surveying, locating, mapping, data collection and processing

· Operate, check, troubleshoot, and make basic field adjustments on survey equipment to include but not limited to receivers, total stations, robotic total stations, data collectors, levels, compass, and tripods

· Process, classify, and refine survey, point cloud, and elevation (such as LiDAR) data

· Locate and stake TRWD property boundaries per legal description and plat

· Utilize Esri desktop and/or web GIS software to visualize, manipulate, display, create, edit, and analyze data stored in the TRWD Enterprise GIS, and ensure GIS and survey data is accurate, useable, and current

· Responsible for providing GIS and survey equipment assistance and support to TRWD staff, including troubleshooting software or equipment related issues and\or performing complex spatial analysis of geographic data on their behalf

· Assists with training and development of technical staff, and develops training materials as needed

· Understand and utilize linear referencing concepts

· Participate in the development and testing of survey equipment and desktop/field GIS applications

· Resolve TRWD staff GIS and survey user technical issues as directed

· Responsible for creating, developing, maintaining, and updating map and database layers in support of TRWD’s Enterprise GIS

· Capable of interpreting Plan & Profile drawings, As-Built drawings, Operations and Maintenance Manuals, and other Engineering related documents

· Conduct CAD data conversion, CAD data inventory, and other activities as directed

· Perform administrative duties such as copying, scanning, and typing

· File and organize data and equipment within the department

· Maintain familiarity with strategic TRWD levels of service

· Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts

· Perform other duties as required

 

Required Experience:

· Three (3) to six (6) months of experience with Trimble survey equipment and software, and the implementation of that data into GIS. Ability to demonstrate basic competency with Trimble

 

Desired Experience:

· Proficient in the use of Esri software

· Developing a proficiency in GIS, surveying and/or a related field

 

Required Education/Certification/License:

· Currently enrolled in or completed an undergraduate or graduate GIS, Geography, Survey (Geomatics), or related field/program

· Valid Texas driver’s license

· Successful applicant will have a good knowledge of and be self-sufficient with analysis processes utilizing Trimble equipment/software and Esri software, and have good analytical, problem solving, and communication skills

· Have an aptitude for brainstorming, troubleshooting, and problem solving

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, co-workers, representatives of other departments and divisions, and professionals in other public agencies

· Self-starter, strong work ethic with attention to detail in the quality control and assurance of their work

distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee will be expected to perform some these duties in the field and on construction sites.

· Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically resides within an office or cubicle or out in the field for long periods of time exposing the employee to weather conditions prevalent at the time. They will periodically work in buildings without climate control. This position will also work in confined spaces, underground, in diches, on water ways such as lakes or rivers, and at various heights.

· Equipment Use: Trimble surveying equipment & software, Esri software, personal computer, printer, plotter, calculator, specialized equipment (survey instruments, GPS devices, laser range finder, etc…).
