Fort Worth, TX – [October 2, 2025] — This year marks the 80th anniversary of the internationally

renowned Texas Boys Choir (TBC), honoring eight decades of transforming young artists, education,

and choral achievements. TBC plans to commemorate its legacy with a full calendar of concerts and

extraordinary events that begin this fall. The choir is preparing for a year of celebration that honors its

past and its present and inspires its future.

Texas Boys Choir is one of the oldest continuously operating boy choirs in the United States. It was

founded in 1946 in Denton, TX as the Denton Civic Boys Choir, by George Bragg, a music educator

who dreamed of creating a space where boys could develop their vocal abilities to the highest standard.

In 1957, the choir moved to Fort Worth to expand its reach and establish Texas Boys Choir School. The

integration of school and choir allowed boys to rehearse twice daily while continuing their academic

studies, even while touring the globe. Through the years, TBC’s reach grew rapidly, earning

recognitions for its artistry and discipline.

Since 1946, the choir has performed in more than eighteen countries and received two GRAMMY

Awards for Best Choral Performance TBC was also honored with three George Washington Honor Medals and a Bronze Award from the

International Film and Television Festival. The choir has performed for popes, presidents, religious

leaders, monarchs, and dignitaries from around the world, collaborating with legendary musicians such

as Igor Stravinsky and Van Cliburn. One of the choir’s most historic moments came on November 22,

1963, when they performed for President John F. Kennedy in Fort Worth. With each of their impressive

performances, they cemented their reputation as a cultural ambassador and world-class ensemble.

In 2001, Texas Boys Choir, Inc. established Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA), a public

charter school designed to support students pursuing excellence in the performing and visual arts. (Other Than Opera), in 1966 and 1968. During this same time,

2015, Texas Boys Choir, Inc. rebranded to become Texas Center for Arts + Academics (TCA+A) to

better represent the various ways the organization supports artistic excellence and academic success.

TCA+A oversees the only auditioned based fine-arts-focused charter schools in Fort Worth which offer

students daily access to high-quality, fine arts instruction woven into rigorous academic curriculum. This

strong educational foundation helps secure the choir’s future by giving its members daily access to

high-caliber instruction and artistic immersion across multiple disciplines.

history of performances and accolades, but also the transformative power of music education to shape

lives and inspire future generations. This anniversary is a testament to what is possible when passion,

education, and community come together.”80th Anniversary celebrations kick off in October with a FallChoral Showcase at FWAFA and continue with performances at Fort Worth Botanic Gardens’

Lightscape and caroling on WRR 101.1 FM radio station. During the holiday season, TBC will present

three “Christmas with TBC” concerts taking place in Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth. The choir’s

annual Young Artist Concert is in February at Broadway Baptist Church.

Then in March, Tour Choir—made up of twenty-six boys between the ages of 10 and 18—will embark

on a two-week journey across Texas. This celebration tour begins in Denton, the city where the choir’s

story began, and includes stops in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Houston. While in

Austin, the boys have the privilege of performing at the Capitol Rotunda, and in Houston, they join

forces with the Houston Boychoir for a collaborative performance. In April, the Men’s Choir, ages 13

through 18, will travel to New Orleans to sing at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church and

experience the city's rich musical culture.

Highlighting the anniversary is a grand Celebration Concert on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Texas Wesleyan

University. The evening will have a special appearance by TBC alumnus and Broadway star Major

Attaway, best known for his portrayal of Genie in Disney’s Aladdin. The choir will premiere two new

compositions: a commissioned work by American composer Michael John Trotta and an original song

written by TBC alumnus Nico Gutierrez. A reception will follow the concert, open to all current and

former members, families, staff, and supporters.

This 80th Anniversary is not only a momentous occasion for TBC and Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts,

but for the entire Fort Worth community and greater Metroplex. For eight decades, Texas Boys Choir

has represented our region with excellence on the world stage. The choir is an educational and

performance institution that continues to provide any boy, regardless of socioeconomic or ethnic

background, with a structured environment in which to learn the fundamentals of world-class vocal

performance. Its enduring presence is a testament to the rich cultural traditions and deep community

roots that define Fort Worth’s artistic spirit.

Looking beyond the current season, the choir is already planning a major holiday performance at

Carnegie Hall in New York City in December 2026. This prestigious appearance will serve as the

perfect finale to a year filled with celebration, reflection, and renewed purpose.
